Analysis Of Langston Hughes s Poem Theme From English B

What Lies Beneath Langston Hughes was an American poet who spent a majority of his life growing up in Cleveland, Ohio as well as Lincoln, Illinois. Hughes was able to travel across the states and to several different countries which allowed him to experience diversity and hardships like poverty and racial discrimination. His teenage years was around the time that he would start to write poetry. The poetry that he wrote throughout his life incorporated Black culture and revealed his deeper views on humans as a whole and as an individual. A trait as simple as the color of his skin is what set him apart from the rest of the people who surrounded his everyday life, and it also is what set him to explore themes that are modern today and the†¦show more content†¦His own experiences and work as a poet was a massive factor that helped shape the â€Å"artistic contributions of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s† (Text). The Harlem Renaissance was a span of time that can be de scribed as a continual appearance of African American writers. It was clear that Hughes was becoming part of the African American group of thinkers who were making an effort to create an authentic art movement in Harlem. His various works celebrated blackness and aimed to change the way of thinking in most African Americans; he desired to destroy the internalized racism and thoughts of inferiority that were created by racial prejudice. Hughes ability and persistence to write about the â€Å"‘nuances of black life and its frustrations’† (James) is what brought him a large popularity and liking from other African Americans. Hughes’ goals in writing poetry were not just to rid of the lowly image and way of life that African Americans for years had created within themselves, he also desired to use his poetry in order to show that â€Å"‘there is no lack within the Negro people of beauty, strength and power†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ã¢â‚¬  (James). This belief of g reatness within African Americans allows him to support his idea that everyone is equal and that there is something to learn from one another, no matter the differences that people may have.
